Experience the rare Ugandan mountain gorillas in the deep jungles of Bwindi’s impenetrable national park
On this journey you will be taken through the jungles of Uganda looking for the rare mountain gorillas. Together with an experienced guide, we move deep through the jungle in Bwindi National Park with the goal of having a gorilla family and up close to experiencing these impressive and rare primates. Only about 1,000 mountain gorillas remain worldwide and barely half of them live here in Bwindi.
Day 1: Departure from Scandinavia – Arrival Entebbe
Departure from Scandinavia towards Kampala, Uganda’s capital, where you arrive late in the evening. Depending on the airline, there will be one or two stopovers on the way. On arrival you will be picked up at the airport and driven to the hotel, a drive of between 45 minutes and an hour. The rest of the evening is on its own.
Day 2: City tour, culture and market visit
After breakfast at your hotel you will be picked up by your guide. Then you will join the guide on an exciting city tour. During the trip it is possible to quite freely plan and improvise the program together with your guide and the focus will be on seeing Kampala’s highlights; famous buildings, historical sites, religious monuments and not least experience the bustling Owina market, a wild mix of all the world’s goods and lots of traders. At first glance, the marketplace seems chaotic, but during the visit you will receive a warm Ugandan welcome and a colorful experience as well as, of course, good opportunities to bargain on the market. Late in the afternoon you are back at the hotel and the rest of the day can be spent on your own. ( F )
Day 3: Kampala to Bwindi National Park
The journey starts at seven in the morning from Kampala, where you are picked up by car. Yes, in fact, it all starts with you crossing the equator. The drive to Bwindi National Park takes about nine to ten hours and on the way you pass beautiful mountains, tropical rainforest and bamboo forest. You will arrive at Bwindi National Park in the late afternoon and will be dropped off at your hotel. ( F )
Day 4: Gorilla trekking
Today you get up early and already at six o’clock you roll from the hotel. Experienced guides guide you through and deep into the jungle and up steep slopes created by volcanoes. The goal is to find a mountain gorilla family and if you are lucky you will get very close and be able to observe these impressive animals. The experience can hardly be described, to suddenly come face to face with this amazing creature. There they are in front of you, in their all-natural surroundings. In order not to get the gorillas used to humans too much, you can spend a maximum of one hour with them. ( F , L , M )
Day 5: Bwindi National Park – Kampala
The last day the trip goes back to Kampala, where you arrive around 18.00. Here, the tour ends slightly with a return trip to the airport or if you continue on your own. ( F )
Overnight stays
Four nights in a budget hotel
Comments
Remember packed lunches and plenty of water for the gorilla hike – we will only be back at our hotel in the late afternoon, around 16:30.
The trip involves 6-8 hours of hiking in the heights, so a good physical shape is required.
