Little news had lately around the deployment of fiber optic shared by Orange and Vodafone. After the purchase of ONO by the seconds seemed to union forces lost bellows, being the objective of 2015 in three million homes, including one million households that can get Orange with ONO cable.
But today we finally had news of the advance that common effort. Orange today announced the start of the deployment of FTTH in Bilbao and in a few weeks in other Basque towns. No doubt is a movement oriented attacking Euskaltel in its territory, where until now the only competition in the broadband high speed came from Movistar.
EUR 20 million is the figure that the French have been mentioned as investment to bring fiber to Bilbao. 140,000 will be households in the neighbourhoods of Atxuri, Otxakoaga, Begoña and Miribilla which will reach the fiber that Orange will share with Vodafone. That Yes, the goal is to reach 400,000 Basque households, with subsequent arrival at locations as San Sebastián, Vitoria, Irun, Portugalete, Basauri, Getxo or Barakaldo among others.
As a gateway to the Basque country Bilbao
The arrival of Orange and Vodafone with its own fiber in Bilbao is no coincidence. Currently in the Basque country the competition on a large scale in fixed high-speed broadband is limited to Euskaltel and Movistar, not being present or ONO, in the hands of Vodafone, or Jazztel, company wooed by Orange, so this will be the first foray in the Basque country of both companies.
More than 40% of the customers of broadband fixed in the Basque country are of Euskaltel by what the objective will be to steal customers from them. Although the people of Bilbao that want to put to consider the offers of Orange and Vodafone will have to wait, since the fiber of them will not be ready until the end of the year. Therefore, it is I turn now to that Euskaltel put the batteries.
